Betraying Reason (2003)

Reason lives a simple and quiet life with his companion, a friendly German Shepherd named "Old Man". A car mechanic by trade, Reason's real passion is communing with nature on land passed down through 150 years in his family. But his land is in trouble: a lumber company is cutting down the trees and legal options are few. Reason hopes the solution lies buried with the lost treasure that once belonged to his great great grandfather, a famed stagecoach robber known as Black Bart the Poet.

One day, a car crashes onto Reason's property and his life is forever changed by its passengers: a little girl named Belle and her angry mother Mattie. At first, Reason isn't a kind host to his guests, but that soon changes and they move in with him. It's obvious that he and Mattie are deeply attracted to each other.

Ultimately, even though Reason's friends band together to save the land he loves so much, they can't save the man who taught them so much about how to love. As Mattie and Belle pack up to head back to the city they both realize that you can't save your family by hurting other people.
